Rain or Shine ... Just 2 More Sleeps

Fun Fair is now under 48 hours away and while the forecast isn't perfect, we are ready for anything! In case you are wondering, if it rains, the only thing that changes is the Fair will take place in the school, INFLATABLES and all!

Remember, the Fun Fair is not every year and so you need to make the most of the night! Here are some tips to make sure you do not miss anything!

1. When you arrive follow the signs to pick up anything you have pre-paid (dinner combos, wristbands, punch cards). If you have not yet made purchases then you can do so at this time too.

Wrist Bands - $25
Punch Card - 25 punches for $20 OR 10 punches for $10
Dinner combos $7

Due to demand we will be able to sell dinner combos on the night of the event; first come first served, so order early before they run out!

2. If you can, please consider walking to the Fair! We have a very small parking lot at the best of times and for the night it will be off limits except for those who are working the event ... also a very large Red Truck of some sort is expected ..... hmmmm?). There is limited street parking in the neighbourhood.

3. We have games, we have inflatables, and we have attractions! Back by popular demand we have Air Brush Tattoo artists attending and the cost is only $5 per tattoo. This attraction is not included in a wristband and so you will need to purchase it at the fair, but how cool to have a very professional looking Tattoo that will stick around for days! Hey, its great for parents too, who hasn't thought about a little ink at one point or another but has never been able to commit to make it permanent!

4. While we are talking about the fun extra's here are some others: Cotton Candy $2, Popcorn $1, Samosas $2, Beef Patties $1, Candy Cups $1-$2, Bingo starting at $1, and of course the Silent Auction! We also will have a local Ice Cream Truck with prices starting at $1!

5. Need to relax; come join the French Club students at the French Cafe!
Ice coffee, Ice tea, Croissants (Butter or Chocolate), and Cookies will be available with most items at $1 and $2.

6. With almost 15 carnival games, many inflatables, cake walk, and cookie decorating; start using those wristbands and punch cards as soon as you can, the earlier you get to the fair, the more time you have to play!

7. A surprise for those attending; as a little gift to our community we want you to know that we have brought in some stations at no cost to you! Henna, Face Painting, and our Crafts, and a Selfie station will be free of charge! We will also have some basketball games going on .... come to the fair, play some ball, then once the fair is over at 8pm you will have plenty of time to get home to see the start of Game 6 at 9pm!

8. Browse the wares of local vendors who are coming out to help support Bloordale; we have travel experts, clothing lines, and speciality teas.

9. Remember that all money raised goes straight back into the school to benefit ALL of our students. 80% of the profits are directly going to updating classroom technology!

10. Come on out on Thursday and bring your family, friends, and neighbours! Its been a busy school year that has gone by so quick, lets all enjoy one last big party together before we break for summer!

We look forward to seeing you really soon!

Calls To Action - Truth and Reconciliation Sept 30

This week, Thursday to be exact, our country recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.   This week each day on the blog we will provide resources you and your family can use to better understand what this day means and why it is needed. Many of us are only learning in recent months and years about the atrocities that occurred to our Indigenous communities over the past 155 years and beyond.  Today I am leaving the link that provides the document that contains the 94 Calls Of Action that were developed by the TRC (the Truth and Reconciliation Commission) in 2015. Even at that time many Canadians did not know about the work being done and only as the discoveries that were made this summer and those that continue to be made has these calls come back to light. Our kids are learning in the classroom; as parents and caregivers we have a responsibility to learn and understand and act too! Today take a few minutes to begin reading the Calls To Action and tomorrow I will have a

Not The Year We Expected .....

Well, what a year 2020 is turning out to be, one we will never forget and one that our kids will tell tales of to future generations. But while we are able to one day tell stories of this time, many are still trying to come to terms with this new way of life. It is not easy and for many it is down right scary, if you need any help at all, you can reach out to your extended Bloordale family at anytime :) The TDSB has so many links at your finger tips to help you get started in finding help where you need it; from online learning to mental health, the website has got you many starting points. From one parent to another, you know your kids and if you can see that they are having trouble adjusting to the new school norms, reach out to your child's teacher; we are all in this together and this is new and unprecedented for all of us :) Looking for some online resources, the TDSB website may have what you need.
