Starting the conversation:

These links can be a way to start the conversation of Truth and Reconciliation but so much more must be done. This is just the start of that conversation here but as the days and months go on we will continue and never let the horrors be forgotten. We must work towards a true reconciliation.

"Reconciliation is about establishing and maintaining a mutually respectful relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples in this country. In order for that to happen, there has to be awareness of the past, an acknowledgement of the harm that has been inflicted, atonement for the causes, and action to change behaviour."

Calls To Action - Truth and Reconciliation Sept 30

This week, Thursday to be exact, our country recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.   This week each day on the blog we will provide resources you and your family can use to better understand what this day means and why it is needed. Many of us are only learning in recent months and years about the atrocities that occurred to our Indigenous communities over the past 155 years and beyond.  Today I am leaving the link that provides the document that contains the 94 Calls Of Action that were developed by the TRC (the Truth and Reconciliation Commission) in 2015. Even at that time many Canadians did not know about the work being done and only as the discoveries that were made this summer and those that continue to be made has these calls come back to light. Our kids are learning in the classroom; as parents and caregivers we have a responsibility to learn and understand and act too! Today take a few minutes to begin reading the Calls To Action and tomorrow I wil...

Dear Parents and Guardians;

Many of us don’t really know exactly what goes on at a school during the day.  We know our kids are in class and that teachers are teaching. We know our kids  are learning and socialising, they are every day becoming more aware of the world around us.  A teacher does not have an easy job. They need to plan ahead, be ready to teach in a  way that large numbers of students can understand (keep in mind there are many different  learning styles), and at the end of the day they have all the same concerns that the rest of us  do. These adults have the world on their shoulders right now and while many of us may work  in difficult atmospheres, kids are not relying on us all day in that work space.  At our first parent council meeting I hope that we can take some time to discuss what the  Ministry of Education has caused the TDSB to do in regards to cutbacks that affect our  school directly.  One major issue tha...

Not The Year We Expected .....

Well, what a year 2020 is turning out to be, one we will never forget and one that our kids will tell tales of to future generations. But while we are able to one day tell stories of this time, many are still trying to come to terms with this new way of life. It is not easy and for many it is down right scary, if you need any help at all, you can reach out to your extended Bloordale family at anytime :) The TDSB has so many links at your finger tips to help you get started in finding help where you need it; from online learning to mental health, the website has got you many starting points. From one parent to another, you know your kids and if you can see that they are having trouble adjusting to the new school norms, reach out to your child's teacher; we are all in this together and this is new and unprecedented for all of us :) Looking for some online resources, the TDSB website may have what you need. To help you navigate, here are some specific links on the TDSB Website: ...
